Are you thinking of extending your kitchen? Unsure how to achieve your dream kitchen? Want some inspiration? Then a lean-to conservatory could provide an amazing result.

Apropos was proud to be involved in their recent Newark project, designing and erecting a lean-to conservatory to bring some ‘industrial chic’ to a new kitchen.

The owner of the property - a RIBA-registered architect – wanted a lean-to conservatory to create his own piece of contemporary, minimalist architecture, to house a sleek kitchen-cum-dining area. However, on paper this aspiration was challenged by the existing property, a traditional looking 1950s detached house.

The challenge was superbly met with a sympathetic lean-to conservatory designed, engineered and installed by Apropos.

The lean-to conservatory was erected to the side of the property, allowing the property’s kitchen and dining area to be extended sideways and outwards.

Bricks from the original gable wall of the property - which had been partly removed to allow access to the new lean-to conservatory – were incorporated into the brickwork of the new lean-to conservatory, allowing the new glazed aspects of the new kitchen extension to blend seamlessly with the original property. The clear, smooth lines of the lean-to conservatory provided a contemporary finish that complemented the property rather than overpowered it.

The lean-to conservatory’s impressive 26m² roof span was made possible using a highly strong, but deceptively light, aluminium frame which easily supported the roof’s glazing; whilst keeping the environment snug all-year-around. This magnificent roof created the jaw-dropping setting for a minimal open-plan kitchen and dining area that spanned both the lean-to conservatory and the original property.

The bespoke design created a lean-to conservatory that was spacious and outward looking, using the garden as a magnificent backdrop to everyday family life.

Despite the high volume of glazing in the final structure, the lean-to conservatory was highly energy efficient, using the latest glazing technology to adhere to the highest energy standards possible, in order to retain warmth in the winter. The installation of electric roof vents allowed air to freely flow through the lean-to conservatory in the summer, resulting in a light airy feel to the property.
